“Look to Me, and be saved,
All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.”
Isaiah 45:22
I recently heard a story from pastor, author, and speaker Megan Fate Marshman. Megan shares about her now-deceased husband Randy. He was a skilled surgeon, who loved people. Randy could feel when patients were anxious and afraid. He would casually ask them what year they were born, sneak off and change the office satellite radio station to play the greatest hits from their 21st birthday in an attempt to bring comfort. The age of 21 plays a strong role in memory retention and therefore feeling. As patients nervously looked around the room at syringes and surgical paraphernalia anxiety would once again return. Randy would snap his fingers and smile, “Look at ME” he’d insist. “I’m very, very good at what I do, I need you to trust me.” If he felt the patient drifting off again into fear and anxiety, he’d again snap his fingers and smile, “Look at me…I’m very good at what I do.” I can’t help but wonder how often Jesus appeals to us amidst our worry, anxiety, and fear, “Look at Me….I’m very good at what I do.”
