A spirit of revival is breaking out in a Christian college in Asbury, Kentucky. On February 8, the service at Asbury University ended with a benediction and a song by the choir, but the students wouldn’t leave as they continued to pray and sing “They were praising and praying earnestly for themselves and their neighbors and our world—expressing repentance contrition for sin and interceding for healing, wholeness, peace, and justice,” wrote Asbury theology professor Thomas H. McCall who attended the service.
By February 14, Valentine’s Day, there were 3,000 who had gathered there. People are coming from all over many different universities. Praise God!!! What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than gathering to express a passionate, heartfelt love for their Savior? The numbers continued to grow to pour out onto the streets. People are coming from all over the world.
Sarah Baldwin, the vice president of student life at Asbury. described the revival as “an outpouring of the love of God starting with the Z generation and overflowing on the rest of us to bring healing joy and unity.”
When you look to see all that is happening in the world and what Gen Z is facing, they are looking desperately for something other than what the world is giving them. They are aligning themselves with causes. Pushing back on the establishment, marching in the streets.
It reminds me of what went on in this county in the 60s and 70s. In the 70s, the Vietnam war was raging. The nation was pulverized with divisions between young and old, black and white, hippies and straights–who were the conservatives at that time. Young women were burning their bras in the streets (I seem to recall that one, lol). Young men were burning their draft cards. What rose up out of this unrest was the Jesus Revolution.
The first wave of this movement was with the hippies who were desperately searching for love and spiritual fulfillment, and freedom and hadn’t found it in sex, drugs, and rock and roll. In their crying out for change, God stepped in and poured out his spirit on them, and they found what they were searching for in Jesus!!!
Praise God!!! More people were baptized during the Jesus Revolution than at any other time in recorded history.
Soon this movement spread to touch the conservative Christian youth who had been raised up in their Christian faith. They were awakened in purpose and passion and took to the streets declaring Gods word.
The Holy Spirit awakened people, and a wave of revival swept over our country and awakened people to be born again as they declared Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Awakened Christians who has lost there “first love” for Christ who caught a fresh outpouring of the spirit and was renewed and invigorated in their faith Praise God!!!
The Revival that swept this country back then also rose up on the campus in Asbury, Kentucky. For weeks in February 1970, classes were canceled, and services were extended into the night and spread to other schools.
Just like the youth of the 70s, were hungry for authenticity and a longing to be awakened to an understanding of how to fix this broken world. It is the same with the Z generation. What they are seeing on the news and on social media is just feeding anxiety about racial unrest, gender issues, terrorism, and a culture that is quick to cancel you. Being offended is the norm rather than a heart to forgive They see violence rising up all around them in the schools and in the streets.
The Z gen’s voices are rising up, crying out for change!!!!
The intercessors are rising up and fervently praying.
“Will you not revive us again that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love Lord and grant us your salvation (Psalm 85:6-7).
This prayer is so in line with God’s will. People of all ages from all over the world flooded this small town. The count was between 10 to 20 thousand. There is a reason for this people are longing to be in the presence of God. Much the same as when Jesus walked this earth. Thousands of people came to him. They wanted to follow Him and be near to Him. You can not be in the presence of God and remain the same. So let’s continue to pray because all revivals start with prayer!!
“Will you not revive us again that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love Lord and grant us Your salvation” (Psalm 85:6-7)
Praise God!! Will you join with me in this prayer?
