God’s amazing grace is just enough for you and me. His grace releases us from the pressures of a perfect performance. When we admit we are not perfect and never can be, we all the more acknowledge that God is perfect. Everything about Him is perfect… His work, His timing, His goodness, His strength, His provision.
So, what does this mean in practical terms? For instance, if you are married and let’s say you have been preoccupied with work and feel guilty because you have not been more attentive to your husband or your wife. Or maybe you’re a parent who finds yourself being impatient again and again with your child. Or a friend who perhaps feels guilty because you feel you haven’t been there enough for them. I want to encourage you to stop right now and jump off that guilt train. Faith is meant to be a journey, not a guilt trip! Whatever you are lacking, God’s grace and love will cover you. God made you, knowing you will not be perfect. That expectation we put on ourselves will just weigh us down.
However, Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
The yoke of Christ is perfectly fitted to support and aid us in fulfilling God’s purpose for our life and growing in our walk of being transformed into His likeness. It’s not always comfortable, but that’s not the point. It’s always what I need for the path He has us on. Under the yoke of grace, I do not measure my worth by how many items I’ve checked off my to-do list.
Under the yoke of grace, I do not measure my value against anyone’s expectations, not even my own! Nor am I full of discontent as I rush toward a more perfect vision of myself. Under the yoke of grace, I rest content with where I am right now, weaknesses and all. As long as I’m walking close to Jesus, His grace will cover me, His grace will surround me, His grace will perfect me from glory to glory into His likeness.
“My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in your weaknesses” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
So today, remember, Jesus is calling you, and He is saying, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
