I recently heard the story of singer/songwriter Thad Cockrell. For years he had been trying to make it big in the industry, but could never seem to break through. After yet another underwhelming album release, Cockrell had decided it was time to move on and try something different. In fact, high on the list of 2021 New Year’s resolutions was “Find A New Career”. Have you ever been there? You’ve tried and failed 100 times and you’re just too tired to try again? Or perhaps you’ve been waiting and waiting for something or someone and you can no longer muster up the faith to believe anymore. If that’s you, the Apostle Paul has a word of encouragement for you:
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9
Don’t give up! Don’t quit! When the time is right, God will come through. He is a God who suddenly breaks through- keep believing, keep fighting, keep SWINGING.
By the way, right about the time Cockrell was throwing in the towel, another man was walking into his local hardware store. He heard a catchy tune on the radio and loved the lyrics. That man was Jimmy Fallon and that song was Thad Cockrell’s aptly named “Swingin”. Fallon decided this song would be his anthem during a covid weary time. He invited Thad to join him on the Tonight show and play it for the world. The song is currently #1 on iTunes. Don’t give up, God will come through in due season.
