I want to start at the beginning when we were born. Although we don’t remember that moment we can all relate to how traumatic that must have been. So here we are in our mother’s womb: it was warm and safe, your every need being met. Then one day you are born. Can you imagine how cold it must have been? Your mom’s temperature is 98.6. It certainly isn’t that in the delivery room, and if you don’t start crying right away they make sure you do by giving you a slap on your bottom! The next thing they do is cut the umbilical cord and you are out there on your own. And to really top it off you’re separated from God because of original sin.

When Adam and Eve sinned, that is when that separation happened. God did not create us with that in mind. God created us with the idea that we would be secure and safe just the way we were in our mother’s womb… with our every need being met, dependent on him and secure in his love. However because of that separation we become self-centered and self-reliant. We start to cling to things to find the love and security we long for. We can end up looking for love in all the wrong places.

Because of this need for love and acceptance, we can try to find our worth in things on the outside rather than within—for instance, how many friends we have on Facebook, how gifted or talented we are, how smart we are, or how we look, how many designer clothes we have, the model of our car, what position or job we have, or the size of our bank account. So many things.

Even when we are born again these patterns in our life are not so easily broken. The moment we are born again everything changes. We are then connected to God through this new birth, but we have to let go of the old and let God fill us up and satisfy our deepest needs.   

We have to learn to see ourselves through God’s eyes. We have the tendency to see ourselves through each other’s eyes, so the love and acceptance we crave has the tendency to be performance oriented. The idea of unconditional love is foreign to us! But it is always there, just waiting for us to get a revelation of it. 

Again there is only one answer: we have to Let go and Let God. 

As we worship him and open our hand to release the things we cling to, we will begin to instead raise up holy hands in worship, letting go and surrendering to his love. That love will saturate your soul and satisfy this deep longing from within. As we read the word of God and pray, our spiritual eyes will be open to know him more. There is only one love that will surely satisfy us. 

God is more powerful than anything in heaven or on this earth. The moment you received Jesus as your savior you were born again and divinely connected to God. And you are secure in his love forever! 

My prayer for us is that we will recognize his love:

Ephesians 3:16-19 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, will have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you will be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
