Fulfillment and joy and our destiny are found as we keep in step with the one who created us. God’s will is perfect.
When God created us, He gave us free will to choose the path we will take and the decisions we will make that set the course of our life. The most crucial decision we will ever make is the one that leads to everlasting life. The moment you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior the door is opened to receive eternal life.
God created us with a purpose and a destiny, and he empowers and equips us to fulfill that purpose!! However the key to setting us on that path is obedience and learning to recognize God’s will. In order to discern God’s will, we have to be willing ours down.
In my own personal journey I came to realize that a number of years had gone by and I had been resisting God’s will to reign in my life. Do you know how God revealed this to me? It was during my prayer time. The Holy Spirit prompted me to pray “not my will but yours be done” I literally had a hard time getting those words out of my mouth. However, little by little God transformed my heart. It started like a whisper…”not my will but yours be done” that whisper became louder and louder, and then I found myself drawn to scriptures relating to anything that had to do with laying down my will. The word of God is powerful, it reshapes our thinking. God speaks to us through His word. These very words are what Jesus spoke when He prayed to his father before His death…
He said “Father if you are willing take this cup from me, yet not my will but yours be done”.
Luke 22:42
His strength to get through the last days of His life came from being in His Fathers will; to fulfill His purpose. And that is where our strength lies; being in the center of God’s will. He will equip us and empower us!!
Being used by God is an adventure we do not want to miss, that adventure will unfold for us as we choose to follow God will.
Our will is the power by which we choose the path we will take, what we will do, and not do. God gave us free will to choose. When I think of someone who was known to seek God and follow his will, David comes to mind. In Acts 13:22 God said of David “I have found David, the son of Jessie, a man after my own heart who shall fulfill all my will.”
God is looking for men and women who have a heart like David. God called him “a man after my own heart” David was called this because he spent his whole life reaching out to God for direction. His faith came from knowing all things are possible with God, and he understood God controlled his destiny. Being used by God is an adventure we do not want to miss!!
In 1 Corinthians 2:9 it is written …no eye has seen no ear has heard no mind can conceive what God has prepared for those who love him.
The key words here are, for those who love him. As we draw close to God, through prayer and worship, and reading His word, our love for God will grow. And as our love grows, so will our desire to follow His lead.
It is love that leads us to obedience. Jesus’s said; if anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them. John 14:23
It is a process. God meets us where we are. The human will is strong. But God can soften it as our love for him deepens.
God’s plan for our life is so much better than anything we could dream up. God delights in accomplishing His will through his children.
As I reflect on my own life I am so grateful that as I drew close to God; what started as a whisper became louder and louder as I prayed” not my will but yours be done” and as my love for God grew I can truly say…No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind can conceive what God has prepared for those who love him.
Only God can take a bartender and transform her into a Pastor.
Being used by God is an adventure you do not want to miss!!!
