In 1Samuel 17 David answered the taunts of Goliath. With five smooth stones and a sling in hand when he ran to meet the sword strapped champion of the Philistines.  He responded in verse 46 saying, “This day the LORD will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you.” That’s some serious, “lip” for a 17-year-old. If ever, “trash talking” were to be described as, “epic”, this is it.

As David sped toward Goliath, he loaded his sling, took aim & hurled the stone that, with remarkable accuracy, embedded itself in the giant’s forehead. Unconscious, Goliath fell. David then made good on his provocation. He removed the giant’s head as evidence of his victory.

The story though familiar, retains one obvious yet obscure fact. When David ran to face Goliath he had no sword with which to carry out his boast… but Goliath did. The lesson… sometimes the provision for victory lies in the hands of our adversary. So, today be brave and go get it! Live right, live well…
